Periodontist
Duties and Responsibilities:
A periodontist is a dentist who
specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease,
and in the placement of dental implants. Periodontists are also experts in the
treatment of oral inflammation. Periodontist receive extensive training In
these areas, including three additional year of education beyond dental school.
They are familiar with the latest techniques for diagnosing and treating
periodontal disease, and also trained in performing cosmetic periodontal
procedures.

$97,000-$241,000
Education:
You’ll need a minimum of 2 years of
college level pre-dental education before you can be admitted to dental school.
You’ll need to take the dental admissions test and score well to be admitted. Periodontal
training can be obtained from a college or university or from a civilian or
military hospital facility. In most untied state, members of the dental
profession must pass written and practical examinations after they complete
their training. The
American Board of Periodontology (ABP) offers comprehensive oral and written
exams on all aspects of periodontal disease and treatment, for periodontists
who have completed a specialty program in periodontics that has been approved
by the American Dental Association.
